Leesburg and Accountable Government

Leesburg Virginia has adopted long-term Town Plans for years. But the Town of does something a little different with their plans, they monitor progress and report it publicly. This is from the report summary:
The report consists of three sections:
- The first section is a summary of growth statistics for the past twelve months (from July 1 to June 30).
- The second section contains measures for each element of the Town Plan. This summarizes progress toward achieving the Plan’s objectives.
- The third section is a review of the action program in the Town Plan. The review indicates the current status of all the action items scheduled to be completed within the period under review.
In the review, there are detailed actions and objectives for each agency of town government, and there are specific statements of status on each action and objective. When items need to be evaluated in light of new information (changes in prospective tax revenues, growth) that is noted and acted upon.

This is what good planning looks like. Furthermore, regular, public review and assessment of progress is what accountability is all about. It is the little things of good governance that make Leesburg's town government such an asset to the residents. These are the reasons Kelly Burk and Marty Martinez will make such great leaders in Loudoun and Richmond.
